Manchester’s local independent radio stations Key 103 and Magic 1152 work together every year for the benefit of Manchester Kids; a charity set up to help under-privileged and disadvantaged children living in the greater Manchester area.
Young people can face many things that will stop them from having the
happy childhood they deserve. They may have physical disabilities, such
as cerebral palsy or autism or have mental health problems. They may
have a disease such as cancer or HIV, or live under the poverty line
and face severe deprivation.
Hundreds of children have already benefited from Manchester Kids and
are now leading fuller, more independent lives. This has been achieved
by providing them with equipment such as specialist machinery, electric
wheelchairs, adapted trikes and computers, as well as opportunities to
take part in improved recreational facilities such as respite holidays
or arts and sports projects in the region.
Events are held on-air and staged around the City to raise much needed
funds for the Charity. Bellagio Time was pleased to donate to several
of these events –
Ladies Lunch with Chelsea Norris Key 103’s Chelsea Norris hosted
a lunch-time treat for ladies lucky enough to buy a ticket. In addition
to a wonderful lunch, the ladies were given the opportunity to win some
great raffle prizes (including two Bellagio timepieces), and to take
home a gorgeous goodie bag.
Music Quiz Hosted by Key 103’s Mike Toolan who was back at the
Hard Rock Café for the second year, teams were asked to pit their
knowledge of music against each other. Bellagio Time were pleased to
donate both a gent’s timepiece and a lady’s timepiece to
the evening’s raffle.
On-Air Auction On the Friday, Key 103 held an all-day auction extravaganza
to which Bellagio Time was pleased to donate a 2.1ct diamond lady’s
timepiece; which raised £1,000.
In total this year’s drive raised a massive £63,635, which
has been distributed to a wide range of projects – holiday breaks
for young people with Asperger’s Syndrome; “G-Force” which
runs sessions for budding DJs; bed linen was provided for “Contact” which
helps homeless children; transport costs were covered for “Grove
Village” which operates play strategy; assistance was given to “Pro-Contact” who
develop garden and play areas in Salford; a playroom was refurbished
at the Women’s Aid Manchester refuge; also benefiting are “Hide-Away” a
community arts project, and a local guide troop for camping and residential
breaks.
