Miss Manchester Event 08-08-06

Chosen from hundreds of hopefuls, thirty-five lovely young ladies, vied for the title of Miss Manchester 2006. Held in the newly refurbished Grand Ballroom at Palace Theatre, Manchester, a comprehensive panel of judges from the world of entertainment and sport, viewed the girls in a variety of outfits, and eventually picked Miss Louise Cliff to go through to represent the City in the Miss England competition later in the year.
In addition to the competition, guests were treated to a night of entertainment; canapés and cocktails as well as a goody bag to take home. All proceeds were donated to the Young Oncology Unit at Christies Hospital. The Young Oncology Unit provides care for teenagers and young adults (up to 24 years of age) with cancer and its related illnesses. Due to the nature of the specialist treatment at Christie's, patients travel from all over the North-west and beyond and the six bedroom unit at Victoria House provides families with a 'home from home' during what is obviously a very difficult time.
Currently, whilst younger children are catered for with computer games and toys, the older child/young adult receiving treatment lacks sufficient relaxation and quiet areas. The current fund raising bid, is to raise funds for a unit specifically designed for patients from 17 to 24 years of age. Here the older child will benefit not only from the treatments received, but also from the surroundings. Bellagio Time were pleased to donate 2.10ct diamond lady’s timepiece which raised £1,000 on the evening.
