VALENTINE DINNER AND BALL
(in aid of The Childrens’ Aid Robert Broude Appeal)
Saturday, 10th February, 2007

The Midland Hotel, Manchester was the wonderful setting for a Valentine Dinner and Ball; the culmination of a twelve month appeal hoping to raise £250,000 for the Young Oncology Unit (YOU) at Christie Hospital.

Robert Broude was a highly intelligent and courageous your man, who sadly died from cancer in December 2004. Whilst receiving treatment at YOU, Robert realised that the day care facilities were very limited. The Appeal set up in his memory was to provide two treatment beds, and treatment chairs; together with all the necessary support, for day care treatment within the unit.

In order to accommodate the expansion of the day care area, the Oasis room (an area for exclusive use of the patients and their friends) will have to be located elsewhere.

The Ball was very well supported, and the entertainment was provided by “That’ll Be The Day” Andy Whyment and Jane McDonald. Other celebrities lending their supporter to The Appeal included Angela Griffin and her husband Jason; Tricia Penrose and her husband Mark; and members of the cast from Hollyoaks.

Bellagio Time was pleased to donate two diamond timepieces from the Paccioni Estrella range for the auction, which raised £2,800 on the evening. In addition, five Diamec Multi-Tool watches; three watches from the Delanicci range; and two watches from the Bellagio retail range were donated for the raffle.

The Appeal was fuelled by the drive and determination of The Children’s Aid Committee chaired by Mike Hymanson, and Robert’s family and friends. The climax of the evening was confirmation that the Appeal had not only reached its target of £250,000, but had exceeded it.
