Following a heart-warming and moving memorial service at Manchester Cathedral for the man regarded by Pele as “the best footballer in the world”, a tribute evening was held at the Theatre of Dreams.
Football and sporting personalities both past and present joined the Belfast Boy’s fans for a wonderful evening of laughter and tears.
The Foundation for Liver Research was established in 1973 in order to fund research into liver disease. Since 1997 it has supported a variety of research programmes at the purpose designed Institute of Hepatology, built and located within the biomedical campus of University College London. In 2001 the Foundation launched the George Best Appeal to raise £500,000 to fund a dedicated laboratory to be named after George, along with associated equipment and consumables, and to appoint a George Best Research Fellow.
The Foundation for Liver research also hopes to be able to support research into liver disease elsewhere in the UK, particularly Manchester, in view of all George's long associations with Manchester United. Bellagio Time Foundation were pleased to donate a 2.1ct diamond timepiece; which raised £1,650 on the evening.
